On-Page SEO Factors that Affect Search Engine Ranking

Many people have this wrong notion that once you put up a search engine optimized website you are done with the SEO part of your internet marketing. Actually SEO is a dynamic process and Google is constantly changing its search rank algorithm. Hence, once implemented, SEO needs to be maintained thereafter for better conversion rate.
There are more than 200 ranking factors that the Google search engine algorithm takes into account. Some of the top on-page SEO factors that affect the ranking of your website are:
- Keywords in Title Tag: A 10 to 60 characters title tag should contain the trophy keyword closer to the beginning as much as possible.
- Keywords in URL and Domain Name: Using keyword in the URL without making it spammy helps in better ranking.
- Global Link Popularity of Site: The higher the linking site’s Page Rank is the more it helps in making your website visible to search engine. The same theory applies with the number of inbound links as well.
- Anchor Text and Relevance of Inbound Links: Anchor text of inbound links should clearly convey the topic while the topical relevance of the corresponding link is equally important.
- Age of Website: For Google, old is gold.
- Freshness of Page: Page content needs to be changed or modified over the time. An old website with new pages is the ideal combination.
- Keywords Density in Body Content: A good keyword density ranges from 5% to 20% of the total word count of the content of the webpage. However, the percentage may vary depending on the sensitivity of the topic.
Well, this was only the tip of the iceberg. If you want to go deeper check out the newly released version 2 of SEOmoz report containing an elaborate discussion over the topic.
