Importance of Reporting in SEO

Reporting is an important aspect of all jobs; and it is an integrated part of SEO projects especially when you perform search engine optimization for clients.

As a professional SEO specialist you have to remember that not all your clients understand SEO. Regular reporting can actually help you maintain transparency. Basic elements of SEO reports are the details of the links acquired and the entire list of jobs that you have done.

You can customize the report according to the requirements of your clients. For example, if a client is more conscious about website traffic you can collect required data from analytics and put them together in proper way. On the other hand, if a client is more concerned about website ranking, you should generate periodic rank reports for the website using all targeted keywords so it becomes easy to track the improvement.

Website ranking totally depends on the algorithm used by the search engines; no one can guarantee higher ranks. But, there are clients who believe that as soon as they hire an SEO company to work for them, the website will get top rank. The positive changes that you make to the website and the off-page campaigns that you run will influence the ranking only when the efforts are documented by the search engines and it may take some time.

If a website does not show any improvement in ranking in the first month, the client may think that you have not worked at all. A detailed work report at the end of the month will clear the confusion.

At the same time, the report can be used as a tool to evaluate your own efforts; SEO work report or rank report can help you determine whether all your online marketing strategies are returning expected result or not and whether any changes to the existing plan of action would be good.

So, whether you are doing in-house SEO or offering services to your clients, prepare a reporting format and make sure that your SEO team adheres to the procedure.
